Josephine Boxwell – Bio

Josephine Boxwell profile pictureI am a writer and media specialist based in Prince George, British Columbia. Originally from the UK, I have lived and worked in South Korea and Toronto, and now call British Columbia home.

Storytelling is the key element that connects the various skills I have developed, and is the aspect of content creation I feel most passionate about.

 

A Visual Beginning

I began working as a freelance video editor in 2009.  Since then, I have edited documentaries, short films, music videos, film trailers, corporate videos and other projects. I have a master’s degree in Post Production Editing.

As a filmmaker, I really enjoy working on short documentaries. The City of Prince George provided me with a grant to create a film commemorating the city’s 100th anniversary. I also directed and edited an award-winning short documentary that was featured at the Media That Matters Film Festival in New York.

These video projects have helped me understand the power of visual storytelling and the importance of a solid structure. They also taught me to work efficiently and concisely. My background continues to shape my approach to a variety of creative projects. Moving Into Writing

I was fortunate enough to gain a scholarship to the Creative Writing Correspondence Program at Humber College. During that time, I worked with a mentor to develop the first draft of a novel. After completing the course, I continued to build on my writing skills by contributing to magazines and an anthology. I also began creating business content for clients. I completed the novel, Unravelling, which I hope to publish soon.

 

 

Understanding the Digital Environment

Both videos and written content are often accessed online. Audiences that find content online interact with it differently than they would a TV show or a book. I have been expanding my knowledge of digital marketing in order to make my clients’ content more accessible to their target audiences. I worked extensively with a real estate brokerage to promote both the company and individual Realtors, managing social media accounts, developing strategy and rolling out campaigns.
